Official District 56 Position on Make-Up Club Officer Training
Every six months, Toastmasters International requires that all new club officers attend a district sponsored training session to obtain instruction on their club officer role. Even if a club elects their club officers annually, they are still required to attend a district sponsored training session twice during their term of office. Toastmasters International places such a high value on this training and as an incentive for attending, they made it part of the Distinguished Club Program (DCP). If four or more club officers attend a district sponsored training session during the months of June through August and again during the months of December through February, the club earns DCP goal #9.
District 56 offers district sponsored club officer training in the form of a Toastmaster Leadership Institute (TLI). By attending a TLI, a club officer gets to (1) meet and hear announcements from the Area and Division Governors, the two Lieutenant Governors and the District Governor; (2) obtain high quality training on their club office role; (3) have the opportunity to attend other educational sessions, such as how to find members for their club, explanation of the Toastmasters educational system, explanation of the Distinguished Club Program, and more; (4) have the opportunity to purchase supplies for their club or themselves; (5) and have the opportunity to network with other Toastmasters from around the district. All TLIs are free and refreshments are provided. The only way for a club to obtain DCP credit is for at least four of its officers attend a TLI during months of June through August and again during the months of December through February.
If any club officer simply cannot attend any of the many scheduled TLIs, we still do not want you to lead your club without some kind of training. Simply ask your Area Governor or any other District officer to come to your club or to schedule a brief make-up training session. As time permits, they will do this. In fact, your Area Governor will be contacting club officers who do not attend any of the scheduled TLIs to make sure they understand their duties. We want 100% of all club officers to receive some kind of training. However, club officers who only attend a make-up training cannot count this towards the minimum of four club officers who must attend one of the TLIs in order to receive DCP goal #9 credit. For example if three of your club's officers attend a TLI during the months of December through February and the remaining club officers receive some kind of make-up training, your club will not obtain credit for their DCP goal #9.
Your District 56 District Governor, Lieutenant Governors, Division and Area Governors go out of their way to staff and present these TLIs. If a club officer wants to receive the high quality training and network opportunities obtained at a TLI, then the club officer must be willing to go out of his/her way to attend one of these events.
